The gold truck (ahem), which was commissioned to promote the California singer's forthcoming album ‘Prism’ by driving across America advertising the record, is understood to have sustained substantial damage in the incident.

The vehicle’s ill-fated journey ended in near-disaster when an intoxicated semi-truck driver slammed into it near a truck stop on a Pennsylvania road, causing damage to the cab and taking the truck out of commission.

Reports say the semi-truck driver is being arrested for driving under the influence.

Katy herself wasn't in her promo vehicle at the time of the crash and others who did occupy it are all said to be in good health.

The ‘I Kissed A Girl’ singer alluded to the accident on her Twitter account on Friday, when she told here 40 million followers (we’re confident none of our readers are amongst them!): “THE #PRISM SEMI IS BUMPED & BRUISED BUT SHE IS A CHAMPION! SHE WILL RETURN...”

On a more positive note, Perry has promised to move in a different direction musically on ‘Prism’.
