Police in the US are investigating the altercation between a commuter cyclist and a trucker which ended with the trucker reportedly smashing up the cyclist’s bike.

According to the report, the cyclist was riding his five-speed Univega bike to work in Boston on Friday, April 11th at 1:30pm. As he passed through Kendall Square, he said a cement mixer almost hit him near the intersection of Main and Third streets.

The cyclist reportedly admitted to spitting in the driver's face as he passed by. The driver is then believed to have stopped his vehicle at the intersection of Main Street and Broadway, angrily approaching the victim and grabbing the bike.

The driver then threw the bike to the ground and stomped on it, damaging both wheels, according to the report. The man also allegedly yelled a homophobic slur at the cyclist.

The driver, who was identified as a construction worker and Chelsea resident heading to a site on the Cambridge side of the Longfellow Bridge, was not arrested.
