Ennis, County Clare based DJ Ollie Mullooly made quite a reputation for himself with the award-winning ‘Hooley with Mullooly’, which was broadcast weekly through Facebook from his living room during the darkest days of the Covid-19 pandemic. As a sense of normality creeps ever closer, the charismatic Manchester native will be appearing live in the flesh at Punchestown this weekend to belt out the best tunes at Full of the Pipe.

Over the course of the weekend, music always plays a big part in entertaining the crowds at Full of the Pipe. The 2022 event will be no different, with a wonderful selection of entertainers lined up, including the inimitable Ollie Mullooly of Ollie Mullooly Entertainments. Ollie has been in the entertainment industry for coming up on 40 years and during that time has established an unrivalled reputation as one of the best in the business.

Even the public health restrictions that prevailed during the worst period of the Covid-19 pandemic failed to prevent the Manchester-born Clare resident from entertaining the masses as he brought tremendous joy to many and broadened his fan base even further via the popular ‘Hooley with Mullooly’, which was broadcast live from his sitting room in Ennis every Saturday night from St Patrick’s Day, 2020, right through until the final edition on July 31st, 2021.

Listeners / viewers tuned in to the somewhat interactive show to make requests and post comments from all corners of Ireland and all over the world, availing of three hours of the best Irish traditional and country music broadcast live from the Banner County. Much needed light entertainment in testing times for the nation… Those three hours from 8pm until 11pm were treasured by many.

While the ‘Hooley with Mullooly’ is no more (although it could of course resurface at some point in the future – watch this space!), Ollie is back performing as a live DJ and the inaugural winner of the ‘Clare Covid Heroes’ award is bringing his show to Punchestown for Full of the Pipe Truckshow Ireland’s long-awaited 2022 comeback show.

Hailed as “the best DJ-hosted traditional Irish and country music show in the land”, the ‘Hooley with Mullooly’ began on March 17th, 2020, with the first lockdown looming. In volatile and stressful times, the novel weekly broadcast quickly became a beacon of hope for the many people from all around the world who tuned in to the show.

Indeed, the online show became so popular that Ollie was selected as the very first winner of the ‘Clare Covid Heroes’ award for his efforts – quite an accomplishment, by any standards!

As some semblance of normal life began to slowly return and conventional work and activities became viable once more, Ollie took the decision to wind down the ‘Hooley with Mullooly’. The penultimate show was broadcast from the familiar surroundings of his sitting room on Saturday, July 24th, followed by the final (for now) ‘Hooley with Mullooly’, which came live from The Bowling Green Pub in Chorlton, Manchester the following Saturday night – July 31st.

Ollie took to social media at the time to confirm that the popular stint of remote shows was coming to an end and to thank all the listeners who tuned in and made it such a rewarding and unforgettable experience: “It has been an amazing experience doing the show, but after 73 Hooleys, I’m hanging the Facebook Live microphone up for now as other commitments are catching up. I want to thank everyone who has looked in and hopefully enjoyed the music and the bit of craíc, I certainly have, and will always be grateful for all the friends I have reconnected with and new friends I’ve made.”

Highly regarded as both a DJ and stage master of ceremony, Ollie Mullooly has been involved in the entertainment industry since 1984 and established 1st Class Events Ireland in 2010. Well known in both his native Manchester and his home in Clare, he has been facilitating fashion shows, book launches, conferences, private parties and weddings for 22 years and counting.

Those who enjoy good music and a bit of banter are in for a treat when Ollie takes to the Full of the Pipe stage this weekend. The ‘Hooley in Punchestown’ is sure to go down a storm!
