Celebrating 10 years in business, Specto Ltd continues to go from strength to strength by providing unrivalled HGV fleet management and repair / maintenance services to commercial vehicle operators.

These are exciting times for the Fermoy, Co. Cork-headquartered company which, as well as celebrating a milestone anniversary, has recently opened a second depot in Ballycoolin, Dublin 11. Founded to provide much-needed services as required under the 2012 Road Transport Bill, Specto has grown to employ circa 30 people, including a 20-strong team of technicians who operate two daily shifts from 8am to 1am so they can maintain your vehicles when they are off the road.

Specto’s Fermoy headquarters is a purpose-built 13,000 sq. ft. facility located just off Junction 15 of the M8 Motorway. The site is served by four full length drive-through maintenance bays, each complete with 20-tonne pit jacks, tyre changing machine, five-tonne overhead crane, heavy duty truck / bus wheel alignment system, heavy duty roller brake testing machine, Texa / Knorr Bremse diagnostics, maintenance breakdown service vans and tank testing equipment

The main services provided are: breakdown service; vehicle maintenance / service of all makes and models; periodic roadworthiness (12-week safety and service) inspections; computerised roller brake testing; CVRT preparation; bodywork repairs / body building / fabrication;  and all ADR maintenance inspections; wheel alignment truck / trailer.

Over the last number of years they have grown our ISO tank / tanker repairs / servicing / testing business and are now getting our Dublin branch prepared and ready to replicate the services they offer in Fermoy.

Specto also has a fully-manned stores which sells spare parts from 8am to 12am Monday-Friday in its Cork depot. Specto is perfectly positioned to cater for a nationwide customer-base and to remain on an upward trajectory.

Specto is a sister company of South Coast Logistics which was established in 1975 by Colman O’Flynn. Operating from the same premises, South Coast Logistics is a specialised logistics company servicing many industries ranging from the food to pharmaceutical sectors.

“Junction 15 Commercials, trading as Specto Ltd, was established in 2013 with a small crew to maintain and service the South Coast Logistics fleet,” explains Damien Healy, who joined Specto as managing director in 2016.

“We then started to look at customers outside of South Coast Logistics. We now have a wide variety of customers within the general haulage and ADR sectors."

Specto are ISO 9001:2015 accredited since 2018, the Quality Management System ensures that Specto’s customers consistently receive the services they expect. As an efficient and transparent service provider, Specto enables customers to reduce their total cost of vehicle ownership while maintaining the very highest standard of workmanship and full compliance with RSA enforcement commercial vehicle regulations.

“The ISO 9001:20015 certification helped us to put structure in the company with me as managing director, Emer O’Connor as office manager and Irek Szpin as workshop manager. Irek has spent the past 20 years working within the group,” Damien adds.

“With our people being our greatest asset, we’re very proud of the strong and high-calibre team we’ve built over the last decade. The appointment of Lewis Walsh as customer service advisor has added extra value and feedback to customers. Selen Gurdere is another key player in accounts / admin among many other tasks to improve our operations. It’s a real team effort between everyone and we are all gaining valuable experience while growing together as a company. While we are only 10-years-old, our management team and stakeholders have vast experience in industry which has fast tracked its development and put us in a position ready for further growth.

“We’ve added these positions to keep pace with our growth, and plan to add more in the near future. We’re always on the lookout for new opportunities within our market and possibly others if the opportunity arises.”

The recent opening of the Dublin depot underlines Specto’s ambitions for further growth. “We’ve grown to be a solid company and are getting ready to accelerate that growth with the opening of our Dublin depot. The group recently purchased 10 acres in Ballycoolin, which is just off the M50, and are already trading from there on a small scale. While still in its infancy, we see it as a big growth opportunity and an investment in our future,” Damien says.

As a former employee of Atlas Copco, Damien is delighted to see Specto partner with the world-leading provider of sustainable productivity solutions. Specto is supporting Atlas Copco in their commitment to provide a swift response and agile assets to their Irish customers by housing a range of rental equipment at its Fermoy base and spare parts for Compressors which will hopefully get our brand name known in the bigger blue chip companies.

Specto are also authorised agents for DEZIDATA tanker measuring equipment and Houghton Parkhouse livestock transporters as well as service agents for Rolfo car transporters. Furthermore, the company has a vast stock of parts for all the leading brands onsite.

"Our relationship and proactive approach has helped us understand the best in industry practices with the relevant regulatory authorities such as the RSA, ADR and tank testing certification bodies and we are going to continue this long into the future and help us further improve and grow as a company."

Specto would like to take this opportunity to thank its clients and suppliers for their continued support as well as its staff for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
