For over 20 years, Bob Lanigan & Son Ltd in Gowran, Co. Kilkenny has been a one-stop shop for all your truck, trailer, commercial, jeep and car maintenance, repairs, breakdown and recovery needs.
From humble beginnings, the family-run business has grown to become the garage of choice for many fleet and commercial vehicle owners in the region. When it comes to looking after trucks, trailers and smaller vehicles, there’s nothing Bob Lanigan & Son Ltd can’t do. From servicing and CVRT pre-checks to diagnostics, recovery and repairs, it provides a complete range of proactive and reactive solutions to ensure that downtime is kept to an absolute minimum and vehicle owners can get back on the road as quickly and safely as possible.
The business was founded in the early 2000s by Bob Lanigan before becoming a limited company in 2006. Bob had previously worked as a mechanic with Nolan Transport, but had always wanted to go out on his own. He continues to front the operation along with his son Paddy. They are ably assisted and supported by Paddy’s wife Christina, who runs the office, and four mechanics. Paddy and Christina’s children Hannah (13) and James (11) spent their summer holidays working in the garage and are showing a keen interest in the business, which also involved Bob’s wife Margaret up until a few years ago.
Bob Lanigan & Son Ltd’s highly-trained and experienced mechanics can carry out all necessary repairs to your vehicle at their state-of-the-art workshop which is constantly being upgraded and boasts a full range of diagnostics for all makes and models. The Co. Kilkenny company prides itself on its fast, efficient, cost-effective and friendly service.
“We repair all makes and models of trucks and trailers at our two-bay workshop where there is enough room for a third bay. It’s the biggest part of our business,” Christina explains.
“We also provide TEXA diagnostics, brakes, a 24-hour breakdown service and much more besides. We have the knowledge and expertise to carry out repairs and diagnostics to any commercial vehicle.”
TEXA is a world leader when it comes to the design, development and production of multi-brand diagnostic tools, exhaust gas analysers, air conditioning recharge stations and tele-diagnostic devices for cars, bikes, trucks, boats and farm machinery. Bob Lanigan & Son has been providing TEXA diagnostics since 2017.
Paddy Lanigan spends much of his time out on the road tending to breakdowns. In the rare event of him not being able to fix the problem on the roadside, Paddy will call on Corcoran’s Vehicle Repair Centre in Portlaoise or MB (Mick Byrne) Recovery in Carlow to tow the broken-down vehicle back to the workshop for repair.
“We take the stress out of the situation for the vehicle owner and get them back on the road as quickly as possible. We don’t keep them waiting,” Christina continues.
“We have a very good relationship with Corcoran’s for truck breakdowns and MB Recovery for car and commercial breakdowns. We cover Kilkenny, Carlow and parts of Waterford for new customers and nationwide for regular customers. We will never see anyone stuck.”
